Premier Wine Training offers an online wine course for WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. This suits people who can’t attend classes, but want a wine qualification. This is an advanced wine qualification, suitable for people with good basic knowledge (Level 2 or equivalent), and this includes wine enthusiasts and experienced professionals in the hospitality/wine trade.
What will I know after taking this course?
This qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and winemaking. After completing this course, you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality.
Qualification aims: Holders of the WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines will be able to describe the characteristics of the principal wines of the world and give information on the key factors influencing style, quality and value. Therefore, they will consequently be in a position to advise management, to answer customer queries authoritatively, and to make informed selections of wines in a variety of situations.

Unit 1: Theory: the key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still, sparkling and fortified wines of the world. How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality.
Unit 2: Tasting: How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT).
Assessment:
Unit 1 is assessed by a closed-book exam of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short-written answer paper. Unit 2 is assessed by a blind tasting of two wines. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual.
How does the on-line WSET course work?
Your study materials will be sent to you by post. Each week you will be guided by your online tutor through the course. You will have on-line activities and classes, often including group discussions. Each week, you will be given a timed feedback and written assignment to practice for the exam and assess your understanding of that week’s topics. Group tasting activities are also provided to familiarise students with the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting. Your tutor will expect you to buy 10 wines, taste them, and submit your tasting notes. The exam is held in person, in Dublin.
Recommended Private Study: 90 hours study is recommended for this course. It’s important to have a regular study time from the start of the course.

Cost: €685. Cost includes on-line tuition, study materials, exam fee and a wine tasting tutorial. Please note that your tutor will expect you to buy 10 wines/samples from the tasting list.

- Mon 30th Jan 2023, mandatory tasting session on Tues 31st Jan, 6.30pm in Camden Court Hotel, Dublin. Exam on Tues 2nd May, 6.30pm, same venue.
Course places must be booked and paid for, at least 10 working days in advance of the start date.
Entry requirements: This is an advanced course : candidates are expected to be at WSET Level 2, or have the equivalent knowledge. Candidates should be over 18 years of age to taste wine.
To use the online learning platform, you should have basic computer literacy. A computer is recommended over a smartphone or tablet, and your system should have these requirements.
